Three Picks for Email Marketing

Email campaigns and newsletters are an effective way to stay in touch with existing customers and build your business. A well-known and popular online email marketing service is Constant Contact. But, while it has name recognition, it’s not the only option available. Two other online services getting attention and positive reviews are Campaign Monitor and MailChimp. Our client Dan McCormick, of Photographytips.com, is finding Campaign Monitor to be both an effective, and economical means of distributing his company’s newsletter.

“Constant Contact charges a lot on a monthly basis to maintain an account even when no newsletter is sent out,” says Dan, “but with no additional cost whenever a newsletter goes out. Campaign Monitor charges very little on a monthly basis, but charges a lot to send out each newsletter, dependent on how many recipients there are. So, when I wasn’t regularly sending out newsletters, like every month, I was wasting money on maintaining my Constant Contact account. It is cheaper, when not sending out a lot of newsletters, to maintain an account with Campaign Monitor.”

The upside of both Constant Contact and Campaign Monitor is the full-featured service and extensive support. MailChimp on the other hand, offers bargain pricing, including an ‘always-free’ option. The trade-off: MailChimp does require users to embrace a do-it-yourself approach to some extent. One of the three services is probably right for you. Turning Existing Clients Into New Business

Getting new clients is great. Getting existing clients to buy additional goods or services is even better! Selling to an existing customer can be up to twelve times less expensive than getting a new account. With new prospects, you have to stand out enough to pique their interest. You have to make your case and establish a relationship of trust with them. Finally, you have to set up the account and take care of all the details to ensure the deal comes off without a hitch. Because we all know how important that first transaction can be. If it goes poorly, you’re probably not getting a second chance.

But when you contact existing clients, you can concentrate on your marketing message. ‘The sale’ is already made. Your credibility as a supplier is established. Now you can concentrate on educating and informing your customer, telling them about new products, or offering helpful advice as an expert in your industry. And one of the most cost-effective ways to market to your existing clients is through email marketing.

Email marketing is a fast, inexpensive way to let customers know about new products, seasonal and time-sensitive offers, or additional services. You can automate the process for convenience and track the results to see how many recipients are reading the message. Links to websites can provide supporting material or guide customers immediately to the buying process. No envelopes to open, forms to mail, or phone calls to make. No wasted paper going in the recycling bin, or worse, the garbage! You can solicit feedback, offer special pricing, or test market to select groups of customers In fact, numerous surveys indicate email contact is more welcome than traditional methods such as direct mail or telephone solicitation.

Email marketing is a simple, cost-effective way to stay in touch with your customers and fuel business growth. It also makes the most of the search engine optimization (SEO) you may be considering, or already doing. Effective SEO brings you to the attention of more people, allowing you to expand your customer base. Email marketing builds on this foundation–allowing you to maintain contact and increase sales. Don’t miss out on this proven method.
